So much more than a Mario Kart clone.
Whenever you see this game, you might think that it is just going to be another version of Mario Kart. This is not the case. While the game involves around driving carts and other vehicles, that is about where the similarities end. This game is fun in its own right and does not draw from the success of Mario Kart nearly as much as it could have. It tries to stand on its own and it succeeds. For anyone who has a Nintendo 64, then this is a game that should be in your collection. There is really no other way to describe this game besides being a must-own for anyone with the system to run.

More of the first game...a lot more.
For those of you who have played the first Gears of War, your biggest disappointment with the game was probably the short campaign. Rest assured that this game delivers what feels like a campaign whose length is comparable to the campaigns of similar-type games. The campaign feels like it was designed more with the focus of playing co-op instead of just being thrown on (which I felt sometimes with the first game) and it is a lot of fun, whether you are playing by yourself, with a friend or online and the addition of the Horde mode is a nice touch.
Now, no game is perfect so here is what I felt were some faults with the game: the game feels easier than the first game. Not saying that it can't be challenging enough for some people but it seems like this game did not make me struggle in certain areas like I can remember the first one doing. The levels also don't seem as varied. Once again, when I played through the first one, I felt like the story progressed and led you deeper into enemy territory and there were unique levels (like the mine cart level, the mansion, power plant, etc.) that each offered something different. With this new game, the levels all look great but they lack the same kind of uniqueness to them. I am not saying that the developers didn't try to have unique levels (I think they did), but the levels just all come off as one of two types: either a standard get-to-this-point level or an on-rails shooting mission. Arguably, this same thing can be said of the first game (and maybe it is just how fresh the first game felt when it was first released that has left a lasting impression on me) but it feels like the levels in this game are either the same underground level or the same rubble-ridden open space.
Perhaps I am comparing the game too much to its predecessor. So for those of you who have not played the first Gears, let us take a step back and try to see how the game holds up on its own. The game looks great graphically. It has a solid campaign (both in size and substance), fun online games, and ultimately it is worth the price. Even though the game has its shortcomings (one of which is a disappointing final boss battle), I still would recommend this game. It is just great fun and can be found fairly cheap now that Gears of War 3 is out. I hope this review has helped gain some insight for those of you who were unsure or on the edge about this game and have fun.

Challenging at first but fun the whole time
Super Black Bass may be the most fun I ever had playing a game about fishing. I remember playing this game when I was younger and after buying it now that I am much older, I wondered if the game would hold up to my feelings of nostalgia. I can so with certainty that the game was every bit as fun as I can remember.
Now, with that being said, this game is also every bit as challenging as I remember. This is not a game that you can just pick up and expect to excel at instantly. The learning curve can be a little steep but the payoff is great. Even trying to figure out how to play the game is some of the charm of the game.
The game does have its drawbacks. Besides the difficulty, the game can be a bit time consuming. The time it takes to complete a stage of the fishing tournament can take a while and you need to finish a stage in order to get the password that is needed to resume the game (instead of saving the game like newer games, this game has a password system that you can input at the title screen that will let you resume where you left off at when you start the game again). However, this can be shortened a little by having the option to check in early. While this may be a good option on occasion, it also seems that whenever you check in early, you always fall in the standings. You can be in first place when you check in by an exceptional margin then fall out of placing by the end of the day.
All-in-all, the game is fun and the good, at least in my opinion, far outweigh the bad and for the price this game usually goes for, this may be a nice game to take a small risk on. You never know, it could end up as one of your favorites. And not just your favorite fishing game or favorite sporting game but perhaps even one of your favorite games for the SNES.
