    Agatha Raisin: Series One DVD
    Aug 04, 2020
    Agatha Saves the Day!
This is a fun show set in the Cotswolds. Ashley Jensen plays Agatha Raisin, a PR executive who is at the top of her field, but who wants to live in the countryside. She leaves her successful, high-powered job in London for a life in Caresly, a small village in the Cotswolds. Once there, she becomes involved in a number of untimely deaths. She shows a definite knack for getting to the truth of things, and with help from her trusty group of friends, ends up solving them before the police do. This is show is a lightweight, frothy, and fun comedy!
DOC MARTIN, SERIES 1 - LIKE NEW
    Jul 28, 2020
Great Show about Love and Life!
If you look at the picture, you can see that this was actually season 6 of the series, which was the series I wanted to get. Doc Martin so far has 9 seasons and hopefully it will be renewed for a few more seasons! It is the story of Dr. Martin Ellingham, someone who is an excellent doctor but not very good on people skills, and Louisa Glasson, the local school mistress. Eventually over the course of the series they have a relationship and eventually get married (spoiler alert -- this happens in season 6!), although challenges, both medical and social, arise at all times it seems. Doc Martin is such a good doctor that he always is able to save the patient with the medical challenges. Part of the charm of this show is it's humor, the lovely Cornish setting, all the supporting characters, and lastly, the big overarching question that is always at the back of my mind: will Martin and Louisa ever figure out a way to be happy with each other on a daily basis?! You will have to watch the entire series to find out!
    Small Woven Tapestries
    Oct 17, 2017
    Oldie but Goodie!
Small Woven Tapestries by Mary Rhodes was written in 1973 and has mostly black and white photographs in it along with a few color photos. It explores the techniques used in weaving tapestries in a clear manner. Mary begins with an overview of the history or tapestry weaving and she has a number of interesting illustrations of tapestries made quite a long time ago which show how old and widespread this kind of tapestry is. There's enough to give you an overview of the history without drowning you in detail! From here Mary goes into designing for tapestry, adding texture and color, and basic techniques with illustrations of how to place the yarn, etc. She also has a few pictures showing the back of the weaving, and pieces in progress. Chapter 5 is about various materials you can use to make the tapestries and illustrations of different kinds of looms, including harness looms. The last chapter covers finishing and mounting the tapestry and contains more pictures showing different finishing techniques in addition to "inspirational" pictures of other small tapestries. Having looked at newer books on tapestry weaving that are on the market today, I feel this is a wonderful early book on the technique. Even though most of the pictures are in black and white, they are clear enough to serve as good examples of the techniques they illustrate. This book is primarily concerned with making small tapestries, not giant ones, i.e., small pictures made of yarn, which can be as simple or as complicated as the weaver has the vision and patience to weave. I personally feel it is an excellent book on tapestry weaving, but if color pictures are more to your liking, then you may prefer one of the newer books which are all in color. However, this book covers all the necessary techniques needed to make an excellent tapestry and I would recommend it to the serious weaver.
