Pure Jane Austen for Jane Austen lovers!
10 of 10 found this helpful I purchased this item wondering if I really needed another version of Jane Austen's Persuasion. I already owned the version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds, which I truly enjoy. What more could another version offer?
After viewing this new one with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones, I am so glad I invested in it - this is not just another version of Persuasion. It is masterfully done and completely pulled me into the personalities, lives and dilemnas that faced Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth.
In the older version Amanda Root as Anne suffered quietly and with control. In this version, Sally Hawkins as Anne expressed such heartfelt emotion in her private/alone times as she dealt with all the shattered hopes, indignities and unfair obligations that were placed upon her so as to completely pull me in to her heartbreak and pain. And Rupert Penry-Jones is wonderful as Captain Wentworth who while judging those responsible for his pain regarding Anne, creates his own anguishing dilemna that he now fears will end all his future hopes.
The righting of all that went wrong culminates beautifully in the final scene with Wentworth's total adoring and caring for Anne and Anne's display of absolute love and joy.
I have viewed this version of Persuasion numerous times already and will continue to do so for many years to come. The supporting cast was excellent also and added such depth and richness to the story. All together this Persuasion show so beautifully that true love, even when all hope seems lost, is still a possibility worth striving for.
I cannot think of one negative thing to say about Persuasion (2008), except that I wish it were longer - and isn't the hallmark of a good movie that it leaves you wanting more! I believe Jane Austen would give it a standing ovation; I know I do!

Breaking Out of the Bungle Bird by Aaron Reynolds (2005
I really like the fact that this book has an good lesson attached to it (based on Proverbs 13:10). It is that it is important that we don't always insist of our way, but learn to listen to others. Especially because they just might be right and have the very answer we need.
The dialogue is fun for kids and not too long. The pictures are bright and eye-catching.
I also have "Tale of the Poisonous Yuck Bugs" and "The Nineteenth of Maquerk" by this same author. My five year old granddaughter loves them so much she asks for one of them to be read to her each night she stays over instead of the many other books she has.

The Nineteenth of Maquerk by Aaron Reynolds, Peter Whit
I now have three different books by this same author that I keep at the bedside for my grandchildren who love to hear them over and over again!
The books are "Breaking Out of the Bungle Bird", "Tale of the Poisonous Yuck Bugs", and "The Nineteenth of Maquerk". I had the first two and my granddaughter who loves them, saw a picture of the third on the back of one of the books and every night would ask me if I had found that book yet. So I went on-line and purchased it for her - "The Nineteenth of Maquerk".
It's an interesting story about two "caterpillows". One is lazy and misses out while the other is industrious and becomes a beautiful butterfly. Based on Proverbs 13:4 it presents a lesson in a way young minds can grasp and understand. Bold blues, greens, yellows, purples, pinks and reds prevail throughout with eye-catching characters and fun dialogue.
I have since purchased another set of the three for another grandchild who lives in another state.
