Excellent long life filter
I love this filter. Some observations: 1. Water passes more quickly through this filter than a paper filter, so all else being equal the coffee will be weaker, but smoother and have no bitterness. 2. If you grind the coffee a bit finer (I grind my own fresh each morning) and use the same amount the coffee will be stronger, just as smooth and have no bitterness, but there will be a bit more sediment in the bottom of the cup. 3. If you just use a bit more coffee or a bit less water, the coffee will be stronger, have a really nice aroma, will not be bitter and will be very smooth. I use 100% KONA on the weekends at $60 a pound so I do not like this option. 4. Because the water stays in a paper filter longer the aroma of the coffee is also stronger. 5. So it takes some experimentation to find exactly what you want. I brewed about 20 cups of test coffee using some Eight O Clock High Mountain beans (one of the finest Columbian coffees you can buy) before I got it just the way I want it. 6. Bottom line: I really prefer this filter over a paper one. IIMHO the coffee is smoother, not bitter and tastes better. Just takes some time to adjust your technique while you pursue that perfect cup of coffee. 7. Easy to wash, turn it upside down and run tap water through it. . 8. Remember it fits a 4 cup coffee maker, it will be to small for a bigger unit.
