Purchased these headphones to replace a set of Philips PH805 which were starting to show signs of wear… so I was already used to great sound quality. These AKG headphones are even better! The sound has greater definition and the individual elements of the mix are very easy to pick out. The bass goes deep but doesn’t overwhelm or unbalance the rest of the frequencies. In fact I would say that the overall balance and evenness of the sound is excellent. If I could change anything it would be the clamping force which is a little tight, but if I get the adjustment spot on then they are pretty comfortable. The build quality seems spot on. Great value for money.

Worthwhile upgrade over basic toslink cables.

Arrived well packaged and was easy (flexible) to work with and install in my system. Contrary to some feedback you may have read, the plugs are a perfect fit for a flush-fitting female toslink socket. To jam them in the wrong way round would require real force and you would soon realise your mistake! Once fitted correctly the plugs are very stable. The sound is slightly more detailed with better contrasts and realistic instrumental timbre compared with my previous optical lead, but it is a matter of degree - not a ‘night and day’ improvement like you can sometimes get by upgrading copper wired interconnects. A cost-effective improvement though…

I purchased these with my own money to replace a separate amplifier and passive speakers, and after 3 weeks of daily use running my TV through the optical connection and using Bluetooth for music streaming, I have to say that the sound quality is extremely good! Everything works quickly with no annoying ‘glitches’ and this is obviously a product that was thoroughly developed before launch. I have mine on stands pointing towards my listening position, and the sound signature is smooth with no listening fatigue. The 3-way switch which adjusts the level of bass according to positioning and the optional foam port plugs help greatly in optimising the sound to suit the acoustics of your listening space. Two things to note: The sound tightens up and detail increases after a period of running them in, so don’t form your judgment straight out of the box. It is worth substituting the rather thin supplied speaker cable with something a bit more substantial… it really did make a worthwhile difference. Verdict: Great value speakers with multiple connection options and excellent sound quality.
