You'll bring down the house with these!
First of all, let's address the elephant in the room... That 10in woofer, while a bit boomy for my tastes, will rock the dang house! This system is crazy powerful for some 'mere desktop PC speakers'. They can literally be a viable candidate for a proper home theatré setup on a budget.
The satellite speakers are a mid-range driver that take on the task of highs and mids. That typically isn't ideal (and I will be modding some tweeters into it soon enough) but they get the job done good enough. Audiophiles might cringe but if you're an audiophile you're likely spending no less than 1k for a setup. This setup is ideal for the avg person who wants a lot more without breaking the bank!
It has coax and toslink inputs as well so I'm able to use it as a receiver/media center. My notebook using the 3 3.5 jacks and the Vizio feeding sound via optical. Coax is not being used yet but is available to me.
Lastly, the sound presets such as pro logic II movie and music sound abit low. I'm not sure if it's due to my unit being 15yrs used but Pro-Logic Movie sounds very low and results in me having to crank it just to comfortably hear the action. Just remember to turn it down before switching to a different sound profile or you might blowout your windows and eardrums! Lol
Bottom line, I find this system to have been a great upgrade from the yard sale Altec Lansing 2100s I had prior. Big sound with good range for not a lot of money and if you can find a Z-5500 with its wireless/IR remote, even better!
I give it 7 out of 5 stars!
