NEW Bont Vaypor S Cycling Road Shoe Euro 46.5 Black
Oct 24, 2018
Be patient-it can be weird at first...
Heat molding for me was an absolute must, especially since my foot width was at the max for the Normal width. I’m a bit of a shoe fanatic, so I’ve tried and used Specialized, Northwave, Lake, Sidi, Shimano, Louis Garneau road and MTB shoes. My favorites had been Shimano, mainly b/c they seemed to take a utilitarian approach: design the shoe to fit the foot, not fashion. Well, Shimano went in the “fashion” direction with their S-Phyre shoes-the RC9 has a more pointed shape and the wide version is narrower than the standard Shimano 321 shoe. So, after 1 season of the RC9 I started getting such pains that I had to ride with the front BOA dial completely undone. I fell in love with the BOA dials, but I needed a shoe with a shape that would accommodate my foot. So, my search began. The Bont shoe is by its very shape a more logical approach to cycling shoe design-we need something shaped like our foot when it’s pressing down. Most shoes try to accommodate foot shapes by having a sole somewhat narrower than the foot, with an upper that is wider than the sole, and then it’s up to the upper to accommodate (or not) your foot shape. Bont essentially reverses this idea-the sole is wider and tub shaped, and made of moldable carbon to accommodate the foot. If your foot is slightly wider than the sole you will be in pain-the sides of the carbon “tub” will crush your foot. This is unlikely for most people b/c the sole shape is not pointy and narrow to begin with. When you mold the shoe properly, the “tub” part will flex and accommodate your unique foot shape, resulting in a shoe that almost feels like the sole is from a Birkenstock sandal. It’s ironically weird to not have my foot being pinched to a point and in discomfort-I’m trying to get used to the comfort! One thing I’ve done to help my transition is to use my heat moldable Shimano insoles-the stock Bont insoles don’t provide any arch support whatsoever. I’m sure many people could do such a good job with the heat molding that they might not need a different insole, so I’m not really knocking Bont here. It’s just that I’ve been using the same type of insoles for over ten years that I just can’t get used to a shoe without them. The sole is absolutely thinner than Shimano’s, and feels stiffer-probably b/c there isn’t a single millimeter of my foot that’s not supported by it. I’m looking forward to racing with these shoes next season!
Garmin & GoPro Bike Computer Mount for LOOK AERO STEM 695/795
Apr 28, 2017
Clever, well made.
With price of some Garmins approaching $400, it makes sense to invest some money in the mount you trust to keep it attached to your bike. I will confess, I had to buy this mount because no other mount exists for the LOOK Aerostem. The fact that this company knew there was a need for this specific mount tells you something-they are connected to the needs of riders. The mount is solidly made, it has a nice heft to it, and the drillings are accurately aligned.
