Perfect consumer grade laptop
I was nervous at first given all of the negative feedback out there about Apple using a "Mobile" processor but ordered it anyways after seeing that the pass mark scores were as high as other recent "Full" i5 processors.
There are a few annoying bugs with the Macbook (keyboard!!!!) but overall this has all but replaced my $3,700 Macbook Pro for daily use.
It will do just about everything you need unless you are running a bunch of virtual machines, encoding 4k video, etc.
That having been said, I've used both Motion and Final Cut Pro on it with ease! Render times are of course longer than something with a dedicated GPU or a current top of the line i5 or i7, but overall, this laptop has become my daily work worse.
- Need to bang out a blog post? Macbook.
- Need to install a new theme or work on a theme for your WordPress site? Macbook.
- Need to check Facebookand find out why Jim cheated on Lisa? Macbook.
- Need to write a school report? MACBOOK!
Honestly, my largest complaint right now has more to do with the fact that I can't find a dongle that does everything I want, which brings up an important point.
If you buy a Macbook, you are signing up for USB C from the start. You know what you're doing so don't hold the need for a dongle to use other hardware against Apple.
If it's that big of a deal, buy a quality used Macbook Air.
But after months with this unit... It's really not a big deal.
At the end of the day, the only major shortfall remains this odd keyboard.
However, I have a desktop workstation setup for this laptop with a desktop keyboard, monitor, and mouse - problem COMPLETELY solved for any major typing I need to get done.
