Like the original rat it is a great distortion pedal. The FATRAT has additional selections that modify stock,mosfet, and fat sounds. This comes incredibly useful to make bright guitars sound bluesy or warm guitars sound brighter and jazzy.

About 25% reduction in volume which allows me to drive the amp a little harder. There is a slight loss of mid highs and overall presence. That can be accommodated by amp setting. Overall the intent was made, to allow me to get my Boogie TA-15 driven a little harder into tube saturation with less volume. I replaced my brand new Mesa Boogie Black Shadow speaker with this.
