Good filter removal wrench - right toolbar the job
Feels a little cheap and plasticky, but a specialist filter removal tool like this is definitely the right tool for the job. I'd tried rubber gloves and generally manning up and being strong with the slightly bent filter and got nowhere. I'd started to look at my pliers and mole grips when I saw this. Had the filter off within five seconds with no damage to anything.
