What a great film!
I first saw this film as a little boy. I was always interested in art so this film was intriguing to me! Two runaways hiding out in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. So interesting as well as alot of fun to watch. Sally Prager's Claudia is a riot. At the time, I didn't think kids acted like she did (pretentious and self- absorbed) but now as a teacher I see them all the time! I wish she had gone on to do other films but as I understand, this was her only foray in film. A shame. Johnny Doran, who plays her brother is also great. Their portrayals are not the cutesy, annoying type you would expect from child stars. They are both fun and appealing to watch! Ingrid Bergman has fun in her role as Mrs. Frankweiler. You want to look up the Frankweilers old photos and see what else they found. Madeline Kahn as always is incredibly funny as a stressed school teacher. I just wish she had had more to do in this film. I don't remember her part when I saw it on TV when I was little, but it was fun seeing her here.
I am now an art educator and I think this would be a great and beautiful film to show a class.

Fun!
1 of 1 found this helpful I love how Shelley Long and Bette Midler interact in this. Gossip from behind the scenes say they did not get along, but that must have added to the relationship between Long's prim and proper character and the street smarts of Midler's character. Formulaic for sure and cliché riddled, it's still a load of fun!
