The Maverick ET-72 Digital Thermometer
I mostly use this thermometer for making peanut brittle. Being able to quickly read one or two degrees of temperature change at high temperature ( three hundred + degrees ) is critical. This is the best thermometer I have found for the purpose. I have used this model for several years and was buying this one as a spare. I tested it with my other unit and they read accurately and identically. I was pleased to have received the two foot probe as my original probe is six feet long and sometimes difficult to deal with. The only complaint I have about this unit is the remote receiver has no on/off switch, my old unit does. this means the receiver is always on and wasting batteries. Otherwise I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

SR44 BUTTON CELLS
I have used only one of the batteries. It works fine and tested at the top of the voltage rating for these cells. How long it will last remains to be seen. I'm sure it will outlast the alkaline version I have used in the past.
