SEEMS like it works
I bought a two of these units because they had a good deal on them - refurbished. I saw it retail at costco for $300, but was able to buy two for basically the same price. I have a small apartment, about 700 square feet, with a 30 x 12 living room/dining room, and a 12 x 15 bedroom. I use one in the bedroom and one in the living room.
After the very first day of running it on the maximum setting while at work I noticed a difference. When I walked in the door, the air SMELLED cleaner. It FELT cleaner, I felt I could breathe deeper and I was very impressed. My girlfriend made similar comments the first time she walked in my apartment after I had got them.
I use them most of the time on the "whisper" setting while I am home. Although it is VERY quiet, it is NOT silent. If you are watching TV, listening to music etc you will not notice the noise from the machine. However, if it is a totally silent room the machine has minor fan noise and almost a bit of a whine. It sounds like a tap running in another room. It is difficult to tell how well this setting works as I mainly run this while at home. It is quiet enough to sleep through, and I hate noise when I am sleeping.
I run the "medium" setting in the living room when I am asleep and it cannot be heard through a closed door. I have left this setting on by accident when I've left for work for the day and noticed similar results to the "max" setting, which is very noisy and suitable only when someone isnt in the room.
I have noticed that my apartment seems to collect dust a lot more slowly. It isn't enough to say that the machine is getting everything, but it is definitely making a signifcant difference.
Now, after all of these observations I decided after a couple weeks to open the unit and see exactly what it had collected and I was.... unimpressed. There was nothing in the "large particulate filter" that is supposed to collect hair and larger items I guess, although I don't understand what kind of person has hair floating around in the air of their house.
The "patented" oreck filter had, what I would call, a small amount of dust on each plate. About what would collect on the dresser it is sitting on for a few weeks - as long as I've had the machines.
So in short, the machine definitely makes the air SEEM cleaner. Although with what I've found in the machines, I suspect I may be getting a little placebo effect. I would still recommend the machine to anyone who is interested in getting an air purifier.
PROS:
- Quiet setting is very quiet
- SEEMS like there is less dust, air smells fresher, etc
- ability to turn the light off while running is very convenient - especially for the bedroom
- fairly attractive design - definitely not an eyesore and the vertical stand is nice too
- no filters to replace
- easy to inspect/clean filters
CONS:
- doesn't seem to collect a lot of dust
- large particulate filter seems useless
- small annoying whine

Not a great monitor
3 of 4 found this helpful Well ignoring Lenovo's incompetence so far in the return process....
There are only two hookups, which is fine, but switching between them doesn't even work. I get half of one screen half of another. Have to power cycle it to fix the issue. Also, just tons of issues with having two devices hooked up - would randomly switch between them.
And the menu/UI is clunky, and all controlled via a single ugly "joy stick" that sticks out the bottom of your monitor.
The colours are really washed on anything that isn't directly in front of your pupil. Corners of the screen look particularly bad when sitting in the centre.
That all being said, this would be a 3-star review as the monitor isn't horrible. But Lenovo is entirely incompetent, so they get 1-star. I should have learned when they sold me a laptop with spyware on it. So this is the second and final mistake I make with Lenovo.
