Simple Truth about a great camera
1 of 1 found this helpful For just over 35yrs I have been shooting professional photography large and small format, most with 35mm AE's and a bunch of F body Nikons. I have had my share of digital cameras too, I purchased a d-80 from the Imaging World out of New York since I can trust them (to get a actual NIKON not a CHINA Nikon).
First of all please note that this camera is a True Pro Model nomatter what anyone tells you, there are geeks out there who only read stats on paper are not pro's and have never recieved big bucks for product photography. Bottom line is : if it looks like a duck , walks like a duck, gets paid professional money for the photo, then it is a Nikon D-80 !
I have shot everything with this camera (portrait, product, landscape) and if you READ ALL OF THE MANUAL about 4-5 times anyone can shoot pro photo's (providing the subject matter is worth it)
Every review is correct in saying be carefull who you buy from and do not buy ANYTHING NON NIKON for this camera, Nikon lenses are matched to nikon body's for optimal picture and color reproduction. (would you drop a suzuki engine in your Lexus?)...I hope you said no.
The very best lens for this camera is the 18-135 period ! it will shoot anything and is a bit faster than the 18-200 (unless you need to shoot the Great Wall Of China) other than that I like having a 18-55 around for close work and it's a fast lens, you can get a adapter on it for cheep to shoot macro and the shots are outstanding since that lens is a Icon.
This camera takes some getting use to and is well worth the effort,I have reviewed pictures side by side shot with cameras costing 4 times the D-80 and it all looks the same. The client is happy and the final printing or blow ups are great. I do not think this is a "ENTRY LEVEL" camera like a few have said,
Some people think you need to spend 10,000 to get a pro camera and this is true if you are a idiot. Learning your camera & how to pick your shots is much more important and the end of the day. Sometimes I use a 170.00 powershot A70 for some close up macro work with halogen light & it shoots better for that purpose than anything else, Its all about learn the tool you have and stick to it, optimise its controls as much as you can.
The D-80 has a endless amount of ajustable choices built in, However you can get Great Pro Shots on full auto! I proved this with my girlfriend, she had never taken a picture of anything outside of a disposable camera!
If you buy this camera and learn it you will never need another one for any shooting reason other than working for NASA.
