2012 i7quad-core Mac Mini server. fast and small that outlast every pc... go apple!!! Date03/08/2018!!
I had been using a quad-core hackintosh to edit video with Final Cut Pro and wanted an inexpensive way to migrate to Apple hardware. I was skeptical about the power of the Mac Mini simply because it's so small. However, the Geekbench scores on the 2012 quad-core Mac Minis are fantastic, so I gave it a shot and have been VERY happy with this little machine.
While the included hard drives are not the fastest, I haven't had any trouble working with lots of 720P and 1080P video. Scrubbing through hours of footage on the Mini is easy and the system doesn't break a sweat during editing sessions. The two areas that you can see Final Cut Pro X tax a computer is during initial clip analysis and also while exporting video. I was wondering how the Mini would deal with the high CPU loads during these intense operations. As it turns out, the system does get a bit warm to the touch and the fan starts kicking out some warm air, but the system handles that fine.
And, the Mini is fantastic at all of the other everyday tasks that I have thrown at it. E-mail and Internet surfing are a breeze. Playing 1080P video on YouTube can also get the fan to kick on in the Mini, but the performance is lag free and video always plays perfectly smoothly.
I immediately upgraded to 16GB of RAM, so I don't know how the system would perform with 4GB.
