Cozy low-maintenance shoes

Ballance between insight and realism
"The strength of a great power is diminished if it ceases to serve an idea."
Zbigniew does an excellent job of reflecting on the last three US presidencies, while giving a clear vision for the future of America. Individuals may or may not agree with his assessments of those presidents; but will likely take interest in the last chapter "Beyond 2008", which gives insight to matters of particular importance to American leadership in the near future. He emphasizes the importance of the US strengthening its ties with the Atlantic community (Europe & Canada). He discusses the political importance of America realizing its pattern of disproportionate consumption will collide "with increasingly impatient egalitarian aspirations". He suggests "an obligatory period of national service for every young [American] adult" in order to encourage world civic education and understanding. He emphasizes the need for the US to "identify itself with the quest for universal human dignity" including gender equality, and respect for the "world's cultural and religious mosaic". He also emphasizes the growing power in China; if we do not actively align with them now, they will likely strengthen ties for jointly beneficial agreements with the oil-rich Middle Eastern countries that are in need a foreign protector.
