Doss DM8100 Digital Multimeter with Temperature 3.5 Digital Extra Large Display

Older models were good for 10 years. This one doesn't function on the temperature scale.

Meter works well NOW. ON/Off switch was sticking to the front decal and would not let it turn off. I cleared this with a box cutter and now it works as it should. I have had several of these meters before - they work well but after 10 years they will not turn on. You can flush the switch with aerosol, put in really new batteries - I even replaced the switch! The display flashes when you push the switch ON, but immediately disappears. I suspect a capacitor in the circuit is leaky but without a circuit I have had to throw my others out. I had 3 for my science program to the Outback and they all died within a month of each other. Still, I got 10 years out of them and I expect that the average person will accidentally damage them in less than this time by mechanical or electrical mistreatment. Worth buying. Well, I thought so - until I tried to use the temperature function. Absolutely no response. All the others I had worked but this one doesn't. I guess I will have to send it back and hope that the next one works.
