Complete Bodyweight Machine
I've been using Bayou Fitness Total Trainers for years, but they're out of business. They were the only alternative with comparable build quality to Total Gym, and offered higher resistance. The Total Gym lost a star because the main cable should be at least a foot longer to use the maximum incline, and the base width should be at least 2" wider for better stability.
That aside, the Apex G5 delivers an excellent workout. The pulley system is smooth and the glide board has sufficient padding that is impressively non-slip. The attachment placement is exactly right and solid. An option to add a 1" bar and weights on the glide board provides additional resistance, though it becomes more difficult to use with the short pulley cable.
The Apex G5 is an excellent value compared to Total Gym's higher-end models, and a much better alternative to the "bargain" knockoff units out there.
