Very little distortion, good protection, feels like paper
1 of 1 found this helpful I was a little worried, if I were able to apply the film without bubbles, but it worked out in the end. I used Scotch tape to carefully pick all pieces of dust, and then quickly applied the film. There were some bubbles inside, but drawing with a pen, they were either pushed aside or disappeared after a few minutes, and all of them were gone by the next morning.
It's now a paper-like film, which has a very subtle grainy texture that feels and sounds good both with a pen and with a finger. My daughter immediately picked up the iPad and wanted to draw with it. Without knowing what had changed, she declared that it feels just like paper. I think that pretty much summarizes my reaction as well.
The grain is only visible in bright light and all-white backgrounds, but you really have to stare it closely to notice it, and it doesn't bother in a bad way at all. Now I can draw confidently without worrying about scraping the glass, and can close the keyboard lid without thinking that there might be a grain of sand between the Apple keyboard and the glass. If there is, it won't matter. The film layer will deal with it.
I checked Paperlike and other products as well, but ordered this, because it had solid reviews and everybody said that it doesn't radically change the color grain. I can confirm that this is the case.
Another nice benefit is that any fingerprints are smoother, blended in, harder to see. They're not as pronounced and edgy as with the glossy factory glass.
And this solution better than a glass protector, because of its thinness: it still works fine with Apple's keyboard case, which barely tolerates extra layers between itself and the iPad. Drop protection is limited, but I try to not drop it.
