Like American Beauty but Funner
I saw Box of Moonlight in the early 2000s and loved it. Directed by Tom Di Cillo, starring John Turturro Sam Rockwell Catherine Keener and Lisa Blount the movie is about the way life works to open your eyes. On an out of town job Al Fountian (Turturro) finds a grey hair which sends his world into a spin. When the job finishes prematurely Al takes the opportunity to go searching for his childhood by way of a lake at which he used to holiday.
Along the way he meets the Kid (Rockwell) who has steadfastly refused himself admission into adulthood. Through this unusual friendship and the adventures that accompany it Al rediscovers a part of himself long missing.
Two aspects of the film really stood out to me. I well recall my own state of desolation and lostness as part of the work a day world. The sense of freedom and joy that the kid brought to the friendship is palpable and reminds me of my newly discovered hope for a way out after spending time with offbeat characters. At the end of the movie there is a delightful twist where Al realises that there were hidden depths to the Kid and the care that he showed for him.
I sent this DVD to my march-in-time ex-American girlfriend presently back in the US. Primarily I just wanted her to share my enjoyment but there was also a message or two in there which she might just pick up on.

Undemanding but genuine performer.
For my money this is the pick of the PENs. I confess I am talking in pure cosmetic terms as I am sure they all go well. The EP-5 was my dream camera of several years until I saw the design glitch which was the thumb grip. Simple, small and paired with the 14-150, and VF-2, well it's not what I call a needy camera. Goes above and beyond the call of duty when you want to use it but is so innocuous it's easy to put back in it's bag until you need it again.
