yes and no
when i got this item i tested it with boiling water and found it was 10 degrees off - too muck for most uses. i complained to seller and she refunded my purchase price. i then tried turning the nut on the bottom of the unit and found that it changed the temp reading. so in fact this unit is adjustable. so if yu are willing to tinker with it, you can end up with a decent thermometer even if it is off when you receive it.
