Obtain or fabricate the tool needed for this rebuild
5 of 6 found this helpful This kit only fits older ratchets made in USA. Upon re-assembly, one must compress a loose steel ball atop a spring into a recess hole in the ratchet head while adding the pawl. I fabricated a suitable tool by bending a strip of sheet metal into an L and curving the part to match the inside curvature of the ratchet head. Compress the spring/ball, and then add the pawl onto the shaft of the selector lever, and then withdraw the tool. The selector lever should then swing to both positions and work normally. Other than that, small snap ring pliers are required for both disassembly and reassembly. I was grateful to find this kit, and rebuild an American made ratchet - a small part of Making America Great Again!
