High quality paper bound into a great notebook
1 of 1 found this helpful The paper is excellent, even with fountain pen inks notorious for bleed-through and ghosting (because the paper's fairly thin, some ghosting's unavoidable, but this paper handles it better than I'd expected). The binding seems strong and allows the notebook to open fully so it's possible to write very close to the inner margin of the page, although 176 pages means you might have to slip another notebook under the page you're writing on unless you're near the middle.

Small, elegant, writes beautifully
On uncapping, the pen writes instantly and smoothly with noticeable feedback that I like (some people prefer nibs with little or no feedback, but I don't). The fine nib is VERY fine compared to the Lamy Al-Star's fine (apparently this is typical of Japanese vs European nibs) and I needed a couple of days to get used to it; now, however, I prefer it on most papers (like Tomoe River). The cap's threading feels nicely definite, and the last quarter turn as it engages the 'slip-and-seal' mechanism has a satisfying certainty — I doubt there's any chance of it accidentally unscrewing and that final feel removes any temptation to overtighten. The cap posts securely, although I prefer to write with the cap not posted. Design is classic and, to my eye, elegant. Capped, the Platinum is the same length as the Lamy Al-Star, but uncapped it's distinctly shorter and feels like a small pen. The only other gold-nib pen I've written with is the Lamy 2000, but I much prefer the way the 3776 writes. Overall, this a wonderful little pen.
