First to market and first to be knocked off
This is my third Motorola V3xx, in my opinion the best value in a cell phone and the forerunner of the smartphone genre. It was the world's first 3G phone. It has GPS. It has stereo bluetooth. It has internet capabilities such as email and browsing. It has Java apps for doing many useful things like multi-language dictionaries and maps. It has games. It has up to 2GB of capacity for MP3s, photos, and videos. It records your voice. It takes photos at 1.3MP (1280x1024), video at 320x240 at 15fps, and yes, it works great with both bluetooth single ear and stereo dual ear headsets for both listening and talking on the cell. It texts slowly the old-fashioned way on a old keyboard, and Tweets, too. The sound quality is great. It even does two-way video (the first to do it). All this for less than $60? Chinese knockoffs are even cheaper. The fact they make a great knock-off is a tribute to its perfection for the market. V3xx -- Superb value.

    The greatest laptop ever built
The interesting aspect of many of the eBay reviews is that the only drawback of a T43 is its age. The speed is only slightly slower than the most expensive laptops running Windows 7, but all the new machines are far more expensive, break down very quickly, lack the modularity and extraordinary reliability of the IBM Thinkpad line, and most have no idea what it means to have a "golden triangle" 3:4:5 display at super-high or ultra-high resolution. It's easy on the eyes if you're doing detailed work (especially in science and engineering) it's the only way to enjoy the day without eyestrain and headaches. The T43 was the penultimate machine -- the last of its kind -- the best machine IBM ever built in a notebook. It embodies all the refinements of the greatest laptops in the world.

Great buy in a DVD player
The Philips DVP5990 DVD player does something that your DVR and DVD recorders can't do, or can't do very well -- play a DivX file from a DVD or CD with the latest audio and video codecs, and play from a built-in USB port. The 1080p HDMI output plays direct to your upscale monitor or HDTV at 1080 lines of resolution, and it plays with little or no distortion and mistimed audio/video problems like most DVD recorders. It also works with analog TVs exceptionally well. It seems to handle both DVD+R and DVD-R recordings, and I've played as many as 6 full-length 2-hr. films or 100 DivX camera recordings per DVD without a hitch. It has excellent controls and the flexibility to zoom, pan and scan, and do progressive scanning. For less than $50, you're getting a device which blows away Blu-ray in value. You can see a product as good as any DVD quality viewing with much greater compactness and control. Recorded any Bu-ray DVDs lately? It's also a sleek, compact, elegant design that goes with any home entertainment system. It's an essential part of the viewing experience. What a bargain!
