A must read to truly understand ourselves as a people.

This is the first in a series of books written to give the reader - and the nation - a solid foundation in the history of the U.S. What is taught in schools doesn't tell the whole story - just reviews selected tidbits from our nation's rich past. Mr. Bennett fleshes that out in a readable, heavily footnoted fashion that is both engaging and enlightening. I'd recommend it to learn the past - that we don't destroy the future.

The answer to dealing with life's difficult questions.

This book is a guide to peace amid the struggles of life. The question of, "How can a God who is good and loves us allow so much pain, suffering, and tragedy?" is eloquently answered by de la Colombiere and Saint-Jure. Hope and understanding await if you crack these pages and travel through a journey of reasoning and faith with them. I needed the wisdom present in this book to grapple with some extremely painful issues in my family, and have applied many of the teachings to my situation. In prayer, in faith in God's love for me and His mercy (though I don't understand it all but am willing to trust), I have come to a place of surrender and acceptance, leaving me content in my present circumstances. This short book is concise and worth rereading again and again. I have passed it along to several people who say it has helped them as well. A must-have for your bookshelf to refer to when life (and it will) seems too difficult to go on.
