Great for young children, young teens: Hilariaous. A little slow and dates...but classic Monty Python
Delightful movie from 1980....a little dated...but very sarcastic and done by many of the members of Monty Python. Great for ages 7-15, especially boys.

Great Calculator for any bookkeeping or accounting firm
Don't bother trying to buy old crap adding machines and calculators...they are just old and don't work. Go for a new one. This is an excellent calculator: We purchased because the ribbon is a universal ribbon, cheap to replace. Good, heavy duty for daily use.

Burt Lancaster's character is voiced in Italian by another actor (not his voice) and then subtitled in English also.
The acting is actually quite good. Burt Lancaster, Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale are all veteran excellent actors.
The setting in late 1943 as Italy copes with surrendering and now on the allied side. Most Italian people at that time were simply starving with no provisions. They were fighting WW2 and a civil war, as many Italians still sided with the Northern Italian puppet government under German occupation.
This movie makes little sense to what actually was going on. The scenery is lush and untouched by war, the women in beautiful dresses. It simply looks like Italy in 1980, not 1943. They talk about the shortage of food, yet their are many scenes with immense amount of food everywhere.
The plot would make more sense if this was a movie about the American involvement in Vietnam in 1967. (bear in mind, this was made in 1980). American soldiers are portrayed as only interested in Italian prostitutes, and getting money out of Italian locals. The American Army is portrayed as excessively supplied and not caring about the locals and/or treating the Italians almost poorly. All the GI's are way too well dressed. The offices of the American headquarters are way too nice and way too extravagant. Their are no battle scenes and hardly any Germans in this movie.
This portrayal is a shame, in reality American GI's were giving their lives for the liberation of Italy. The subplot of the "wig" for women's private parts is tasteless and beyond me to comment on. Is that an Italian thing?
The men's hairstyles are 1980, not 1943. The women's hairstyles and outfits are period and great...but way too nice for war torn Italy in 1943. As a war movie, the uniforms, equipment are not accurate for an Army actively fighting.
It does make a few good social comments, about how difficult it was for Italian troops to quickly switch sides, now being outfitted in British Uniforms. I do like the strong female characters in the plot, a refreshing difference from older American War movies.
It is really more of a soap opera- love-war story. In context....it may have been more of a comment on the Vietnam War rather than WW2. It is a "fluff" war movie with beautiful scenery and people that bear little to the reality of war torn Italy. Note that this movie also has nudity of all female parts and some gore in the minefield scene (This was not made for American censors). Their also may be some cultural differences here, of the Italian viewpoint versus the American view of the war at this point.
