Good trade-off between price and features
I used 3 of these drives to upgrade my RAID-5 a few weeks ago and so far, so good! Certainly fast enough for home network storage and the most affordable I could find. Kind of noisy though, the previous 2TB drives were whisper-quiet, these 8TB ones "thunk thunk" a lot, reminds me of the old days although not as loud as back then, heh. They run fairly cool though, nice, noticeably cooler to the touch than the previous drives (this is a mystery to me though as the measured power draw is about the same, perhaps they dissipate heat more effectively).

Works like a charm, although maybe gets a little warm?
Charges up a home-made Li-ion battery back with no problems. However it does get fairly warm, I kind of wish it had little ventilation holes or something.
Operation is simple enough, green light means it has power, red light means it's charging, turns back to green when fully charged.
Charging up that battery pack containing 4 x 2500 mAh cells took roughly 3 hours (matches charger current and battery capacity), and the cells reached full voltage, and only got slightly warm themselves. Definitely seems well-behaved, even if the charger itself gets warm.

Promising at first, but frequent disconnects during sustained transfers
I intended to use this adapter to bump up my older laptop from 100 megabit ethernet. It only has USB 2 but that can do around 250 megabit, so I was expecting up to that much.
Receiving data worked fine at around 30MB/s, perfect for USB 2. But sending data for some reason topped out at 16.6MB/s and this is also when the disconnects occurred, the device would disappear then Windows would rediscover it again, which of course interrupts whatever you're transferring, as well as disconnecting whatever you have plugged into the hub portion of this adapter. Tried this on multiple machines.
On a machine with USB 3 ports it doesn't work at all, disconnects every second or two.
