Oil stone
2 of 2 found this helpful I am 75 years old and a cabinet maker and all the years that I have been working with wood and sharpening my tool on a oil stone I got two oil stones when I was 18 yearsoud and look after them as with out them I would have dull tool no good for wood working so I decided to get a new one and it is the first time I have had a oil stone that has chips on both edges of the stone and also it's not flat it has a rise at one end not really suited for the job in hand they did replace it with a new one for me that one didn't have any chips on it but it's still not flat on both sides so I have to fettle it in which will take some months before it's suitable for sharpening my chisels and plane irons but I think when it is been fettled in it will be ok so if you want any good stone to sharpen your tools on be prepared that you'll have to work on it for some months to make it flat on both sides before you can really use it properly admittedly they have no problem in exchanging the first one but I'm not one to complain about simple things which didn't cost a lot of money it just means I've got more work to do now than I had before I brought it hope this is helpful to anyone who is going to buy a new oil stone and think they can use it straight from the box regards John
