Very Enjoyable Story
This is the second book in the Ellis Island collection by Cindy Thomson. It can be read as a stand-alone novel. Set in New York during the early 1900's, the book tells the story of Annie Gallagher, an Irish immigrant who has come to America to begin a new life. Annie has terrible memories of her life in Ireland. All was well in her life until her father died. After his death, Annie lived with an uncle who sent her to the Magdalene Laundry, a horrible prison-like institution for unwanted girls. The primary reason she was sent away was because her cousin made false accusations against her. When Annie is finally rescued from the laundry, she arrives in America with only her father's writing desk and the treasured stories he wrote during his lifetime. Annie feels alone and abandoned by God. Annie moves to a boardinghouse run by Mrs. Hawkins. She is a kind woman and treats Annie well. Still, Annie feels that nobody truly cares about her and she dreams of moving on and opening her own library one day. When Annie's cousin arrives from Ireland, she moves into Mrs. Hawkins' house and Annie is faced with old memories from her past. Memories she wishes to forget. She can never forgive her cousin for the misery she caused Annie back in Ireland. Where can Annie turn for love and support? She has friends, but longs for a deeper relationship. Stephen Adams is a postal carrier who delivers mail to Mrs. Hawkins' house. He is quite attracted to Annie, but is also quite shy. Stephen loves books, as does Annie, and that seems to be the way Stephen can get closer to Annie. Stephen longs for a family, but he is deep in debt and has nothing to offer a woman. He also has issues from his past which he struggles to rise above. Annie and Stephen are both reading "The Wizard of Oz" which is very popular at that time. They enjoy discussing the book with each other. However, Stephen still has a difficult time winning Annie's affection. While Annie is trying to rebuild her life, the boardinghouse is suddenly being investigated due to the behavior of another boarder. If Mrs. Hawkins' house is shut down, what will become of Annie? Will she realize the dream of having her own library? Circumstances seem to forever defeat Annie. Her father's stories seem to be the only things left to Annie. Could they be the key to fulfilling Annie's dreams? How can she overcome her troubles? Will she finally turn to God and find the hope and peace she seeks? "Annie's Stories" is a book filled with history, mystery, and suspense. It is also a story about second chances and forgiveness. I enjoyed it very much!
ROSE BOOK OF BIBLE CHARTS, MAPS, AND TIME LINES [SPIRAL-BOUND] [2015] - NEW BOOK

Outstanding Content!
An outstanding book! There is so much imformation in this volume and I turn to it time and again when I am studying the Bible. There are timelines, maps, biographies of key biblical figures, including all of the Apostles of Christ, and so much more! If you read the Bible regularly or even if you are new to the Bible, you will be inspired by everything about this book! The spiral binding allows the book to open flat for ease of use while reading and researching. The illustrations are detailed and vibrant and the content is unmatched! This is one of the best books I have ever used to accompany my Bible studies and I wouldn't be without it! Highly recommended!

A Captivating Read!
Jody Hedlund has delivered another inspirational story in "Captured by Love," the third book in her Michigan Brides series. Set on Michilimackinac (Mackinac) Island during the War of 1812, this book tells the story of the civilians and soldiers who were living there during that time. The main characters in the novel are Angelique MacKenzie and Pierre Durant. Angelique lives with her stepfather and his new wife. Angelique's mother was unfaithful to her husbands. Since her death, Angelique strives to be a woman of strong character and high morals, unlike her mother. She is betrothed to Pierre's brother, Jean, who is fighting with the Americans and was ordered off the island by the British army. Pierre is a fur trader who has been away from home for years. Times are hard for everyone on the island. Many are near starvation, including Pierre and Jean's mother, Miriam, a blind widow. Angelique risks the wrath of her stepfather by taking food to Miriam and helping her to survive without her sons to look after her. Pierre finally returns home, finding his mother living in dire circumstances. He also discovers that Angelique is no longer a child, but has grown into a lovely woman. A woman who captures his attention and affection. Angelique has always found Pierre to be the Durant brother who most appealed to her, but he broke her heart long ago when he left the island. Jean became the man who was the steady and secure force in Angelique's life, and she has vowed to be waiting for him when he returns from the war. She fights her attraction to Pierre, but how long will her heart remain closed to her one true love? Will she betray Jean's trust and become a woman like her mother? She tries hard to make choices based on her faith. She also loves the island and does not ever want to leave. Pierre does not wish to stay. When Jean returns, choices must be made. Pierre holds Angelique's heart, but is that enough? Jean offers stability which Angelique has never had in her life. Which is most important to Angelique? After years of enduring her stepfather's abuse, she knows she needs the life Jean offers her. Jean adores Angelique and his one desire is to make her happy. Reckless love from Pierre or the security of marrying Jean? Does she really have any other choice? "Captured by Love" is an outstanding read! The characters are interesting and the book is rich in history. I loved every page! If you like romance, history, and an inspirational message, you will enjoy this novel!
