Antique, in demand
1 of 1 found this helpful Those of us who had TI99/4A computers and still use them always need an extra for a spare and/or for parts. They were built to high standards and last pretty much forever, except that the video RAM tends to fail in predictable ways. Those who are handy with a soldering iron can keep them working. There’s a vibrant community out there, doing some fun things (like using a Raspberry Pi to put your TI onto your Wi-Fi network and move files from the internet, and even play multiplayer games). Almost all the software that’s been developed for it is available in public forums, and you can play around with emulators like Classic99 that run on Windows, to get a taste of it.

Nice cheap power supply for projects, I might not use it in my main computer
I bought this for a project to restore a vintage TI99/4A Peripheral Expansion Box, so I removed the case to mount the board, switch, and fan in the old box. That also let me see the quality of the components inside. Pros: Cheap, quiet, lots of connections (ATX 24 pin, SATA, 4-pin Molex, etc.) with nice long wires, unit puts out the correct voltages. Cons: sketchy documentation, flimsy metal case, some sloppy soldering inside, circuit board is a bit warped, and I can’t get the PSON pin to turn it on and off properly. Still working on that - the fault may be with the breakout board I’m using with it.

I’m rating a 40-year old product, but yeah, it’s great.
Texas Instruments originally thought everyone would just be using a cassette recorder (or two) to save and load programs on the TI99/4A. This was the original TI dual cassette cable, and the seller had it in an original sealed plastic bag (a bit musty after 40 years). The fact that it still works and looks great after all this time says that TI always sold well-made peripherals and accessories. Only complaint is that they should have made it a bit longer. Now try finding a cassette player that works reliably.
