The Cult of Pan in Ancient Greece-ExLibrary

The Cult of Pan in Ancient Greece by Philippe Borgeaud
This is an academic text and not meant for the fluffy New-Ager or dim-wit who believes Pan to be some kind of politically correct fairy creature. It is to date, the most comprehensive study of the subject. The author remains tightly within the parameters of the title and does not extend his study beyond Greece.
The depth of research, the extensive footnotes, the clear and excellent translation from the original French into English make this an absolutely essential text for the serious student of Pan. I speak from experience having regularly referred to my old paperback copy for the last 16 years and being led off by the author's references and bibliography to read all the available classical texts and so much more.
It is to be regretted that the author did not go on to write a second volume covering the 'cult' or worship of Pan beyond Greece - there is so much more to know, so much more to be discovered about the goat-foot God. Io Pan!

Indispensible reading on the subject of Caesarea Philippi (Banyas /Panias)
This is an essential source book for anyone studying Banyas / Panias. Well set out and extremely informative regarding not only the history of the finds but also the techniques used in dating, identifying and even sourcing the places where the original artefacts were made, I strongly recommend this book, in fact in the study of Caesarea Philippi (Banyas /Panias) it is indispensible.
