look good, black coating flakes off with use

I replaced some older rusty strings... the Black Beauties sound fine, nothing amazing, they look great when first strung up, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the black coating flakes off in areas of higher use (picking, even finger picking, fretted). I'm hoping the coating at least protects the strings from corrosion and deterioration. We'll see.
