XY-380 Large Sponge filter
I believe the 380 in the model name refers to its filtration capacity for tanks upto 380 litres.
Weighted bottom, very large sponge media for mechanical filtration as well as for growing beneficial bacteria. Good quality overall. The hi-flow version with coarse sponge - the one I got, is ideal for maximising water flow to maximise tank water circulation.
Sponge filters are used by professional fish keepers/breeders because they work. They are cost effective and efficient for what an aquarium filter is intended. Internal or external hang on back filters cost more, requires more electric power to run and more frequent maintenance and create a bigger mess when cleaning. Only a canister filter and/or a sump system would offer better filtration to the humble sponge. These cost at least an order of magnitude greater than a sponge filter.
