Find a good history of monks, but not the monk within
Very fine brief history of Western Christian monasticsm. I bought the book thinking it was a guide to personal discovery of "the monk within". However, it did not provide that kind of direction. Nevertheless the book stands as a good synopsis of the lives of key persons in the monastic traditon, for which I recommend the book highly.

The best vintage acoustic Hawaiian steel release of the year
For music lovers of acoustic Hawaiian steel guitar, with ukulele and guitar accompaniment this CD is a must buy. The cream of the crop are the Hawaiian and pop tunes (i.e. St Louis Blues). There are a few schmaltzy numbers, cover tunes no doubt, but the CD is primarily very listenable. If you're a Hawaiian or bottleneck guitar player, the material is worthy of much musical study, and a source of inspiration.

Breezin' along with the breeze (CD)
This is a must listen to item for any ukulele fan. Naturally, being vintage material, one cannot expect modern fidelity when listening. Great original, funny, authentic material that is from vaudeville days, when there were more experts of live performances than now. They had to work harder then to "make it". This guy is a runner up to the great Ukulele Ike, in my opinion, but just as good overall. Check it out if you want that timeless old-time sound.
