Phenomenal quality and support-- now my mom can walk again!!
The brace I'm reviewing here is Donjoy model 11-0673-2, size Small (the model is 11-0673-X, with X standing in for the last digit which can either be 1 for XS, 2 for S, 3 for M, 4 for L etc). There are lots of lookalikes out there but this review is only for Donjoy brace model 11-0673-X. This brace comes in a plastic wrapper inside a sealed thin cardboard Donjoy Orthopedics (DJO) box. If the brace you purchase is new, that's the way it should arrive. I'm not sure buying a used version of this brace would be a good idea because after a while it does stretch a bit to conform to your leg so wearing someone else's previously used brace might not support you as well in the right places unless your legs are exactly the same size/shape. I recommend this brace for anyone whose knee is painful and unstable-- but do be sure to see a doctor, too, just in case your injury requires total immobilization. This brace has a folded stitched seam around the patellar cutout so there are no annoying edges to press into swollen kneecaps (there are a lot of Donjoy knockoffs online that don't have the folded stitched seam, so watch out for them!). This brace also has a popliteal cutout to avoid pressing on the tender area over a Baker Cyst behind the kneecap and the popliteal cutout seam is also folded and stitched for a smooth edge. The internal metal hinges are very sturdy and prevent lateral motion while also providing stability and control for back & forth. The hinges are flat so there's no annoying giant hinge knob sticking out to press into the side of your other leg. These hinges are also removable-- there's a small approx 1" slit on each side of the brace that allows you to easily remove the hinges for washing the brace. I'm sure handwashing's best but honestly I just tossed it into a delicate load and it was fine. It air-dried overnight and was ready for use the next day. The Drytex material (as opposed to neoprene etc) keeps your leg fairly dry, and the wraparound feature allows you to adjust the brace's tightness depending upon how swollen your leg is. I was worried a sleeve brace would have been too loose once the swelling went down, so the wraparound was the best option. The only thing with a wraparound is that it takes a while to figure out exactly how to position it and there's a 1-2 day learning curve but once you've figured out what position is best it is perfect. And because it's a wraparound style it can be worn on top of your clothing too although with some fabric it does slip down repeatedly so again you just have to figure out what works for you. Pay attention to the sizing charts for this model of Donjoy brace (if your seller doesn't list it in the description, do an internet search) and stick closely to the recommendations so your brace fits correctly. I found it helpful to measure the "non-injured" knee as well as the injured one in order to select a brace size that would still fit correctly once the swelling went down. I ordered this brace from an eBay seller with perfect feedback and who shipped it immediately via Priority mail and received it within 3 days. Perfect!
