You Will Have to Work at It
2 of 2 found this helpful I bought this after paying $20 for a cheap knock-off on Amazon. This is still taking a while to get used to but I am making it further and further into the night without pulling it off. I have a teeth clenching issue too which seamed to temporarily get worse in the beginning. I'd wake up with a tooth hurting. I also realized that if I let the flange rest on my teeth instead of over my lips, my tongue didn't hurt as much and I got the same benefit. I realized that the biggest issue is the tongue falling back during sleep. So if it's kept neutral or slightly forward, it will be a huge difference in sleep quality. Drooling wasn't as big a deal for me. I practiced being able to swallow with it on which gave me some confidence I wasn't going to choke on my own saliva.
This is not for the weak of heart. You have to work at it and be willing to deal with uncomfortable sensations and wait to see if they resolve. You have to really want to improve your sleep and your life to stick with this thing. I read a medical journal article which said how well these work in the patients who complied. So this is a REAL intervention. I'm mostly grateful I was able to buy this on eBay instead of paying a dentist money I don't have to fit it.
If you're worried about how stupid you may look with it on to your significant other, just remember that you sleep when it's dark. Go to bed a little early to cuddle and kiss. Then put it in after you've said your good night's and turned off the lights. No one is the wiser. Good luck.
