Affordable iconic dive watch for collectors
An affordable iconic Russian dive watch from Soviet times that's a must have for any watch collector. It may not look like much but it's a tough watch. The new Type 170 case with it's lug-to-lug length at 45.7mm (according to my measurement) is a good size for those with smaller wrists (<6.25 inches / 16cm). It's basically the same as the Type 150 case in dimensions but has a brushed finish. I just love the teal dial color and the 24-hour movement (2431) makes it more unique. The 24-hour bezel also makes this watch function as a caller type GMT watch. As a bonus, if you ever get the itch to alter it, there is a sizable modding community you can lean on for support.
Vostok lists the accuracy to -20/+60 seconds per day which arrived with -15/+30 seconds per day. But, with my timegrapher I managed to get approximately -10/+10 seconds per day. The folded link, push-pin bracklet is OK. I can't ever get it to fit properly but, your mileage may vary. If you do switch to using a NATO strap, ensure it's thin enough (<1.3mm) as there's not much room between the strap pins and case. Some may complain about the acrylic dome crystal but, it's all part of Vostok's unique approach to water resistance to 200m which I'll never be in a position to test it out. Let's just say you will not have to worry about getting it wet with it's screwed down crown.
For some reason, Vostok made the seconds hand so short when compared to their other models. IMO, the seconds hand should always reach the outer dial indices. But, my biggest gripe is with the finish around the lugs as the inside corners and edges are very SHARP!!!
