FOR 97-04 DODGE DAKOTA DURANGO 1PC BLACK HOUSING AMBER CORNER HEADLIGHTS LAMPS
    Jul 14, 2018
    98 Dakota
Decent headlight lens/housing for the price, but fit is poor. Bought this to go along with a HID/Xenon conversion, Xentec 35W low-beam only HID kit on eBay, for an old rusty 98 Dakota. Pros: -good price for set of 2 -nice clear lens - will see how long it holds and lasts -Xentec HID bulbs fit and secured nicely Cons: -1 piece unit - much more difficult to install than factory 2 piece headlamp assembly (see pics) -plastic "overflow" from moulding - needed to manually trim this "fat" from sticking out, for mounting holes -parking light socket has only 2 notches instead of 4! -huge 1" gap after installed on side (may decrease after aiming) -wobbly, not very secure, even with 3 factory mounting screws tight and the plastic pilot guide installed - Highlights: Fit isn't good overall - had to cut various things to make it fit. Factory parking light bulb socket white plastic had 4 "keys", but this housing had only 2 notches, so had to cut 2 pieces off. The top adjustment screw sits in a square plastic "housing", which interfered with truck sheet metal, which had to be filed off manually on the truck. Worst modification, and this may not be 100% fault of this item, but my truck's driver side had a small metal bumper bracket which was completely in the way and had to be cut off with a grinder; other side was fine - don't know why as truck was never in accident in the front. See photos. Without this mod, not only was the bottom right mounting screw completely inaccessible, but one of two turn/marker bulb sockets wouldn't even go in due to interference with this metal bracket, so either had to cut or leave bulb out. Last but not least, since these are single-piece units, both bottom mounting holes are VERY hard to get to - need a long 1/4" extension and 10mm socket, and keep pushing up on the housing. Additionally, because its single-piece - if a parking light or turn signal bulb needs to be changed, NEED TO REMOVE ENTIRE HOUSING. Hopefully won't happen in winter... Main (low-beam) bulbs can be replaced without removing this headlamp. Had to do a lot of back-and-forth testing, fitting, removing then installing again before final mount - just to make sure everything was working and fit a-ok. Definitely not a quick drop-in replacement. Applied Blue Magic headlight UV protectant right off the bat, hopefully will prolong lens life before it fades and/or yellows. Also, before installing, went over the lens-to-frame line and applied clear silicone to all gaps.
