Really cool
These little whistles are ear-piercingly shrill. They don't have that big athletic coach whistle sound but the high pitched whistle can probably carry quite a long way. The little compartment is handy for a lot of uses, but it is pretty small. You won't fit many matches in it; you might get two or three in it if you cut them a little shorter. It might hold a few aspirin or some other medication. Tinder for a fire, or you could keep a tightly rolled twenty dollar bill in it for emergency lunch cash!

These carabiners were a great price and came in a generous pack of 25 pieces. The charcoal gray in a kind of satin finish is appealing to me; I like gear finishes to be subdued and non-reflective as possible. The metal is a little thicker than other cheap gear carabiners I've used and seem to be a little better all around, but I haven't used them in the field yet. I believe they'll be just fine for securing equipment and they have almost countless uses. Never use them for climbing or trust your weight to them or for lifting a heavy load that might fall on you. They're strictly for light use.
