With Minor Modification, They Work for Makarov, too!
3 of 3 found this helpful These grip extensions improve the shootability of my Tomcat, and, with a very slight adaptation, they also made a great improvement on my Bulgarian Makarov.
The small, steel protrusion on the base of the Makarov magazines was always right under my pinky finger, and recoil made it dig in. Experimenting, I found that the Tomcat grip extensions would exactly fit on the base plate of the Makarov magazines. However, the extensions were about 1/2 mm too wide to fit the magazine well.
So, I laid a piece of 150-grit sandpaper on my work table, put the mag extension onto a Makarov magazine, and carefully stroked the extension left and right, back and forth, a few times. Then, flipped it and did the same on the other side. Careful not to grind off too much, I cleaned off the grit and tried inserting the magazine into the mag well. VOILA!
I modified six magazines in this way, and then tested them at the range. Zero problems. With the substitution of rubber grips and addition of these extensions, the Makarov is actually pleasant to shoot!

Nice, uniform light with variable brightness and daylight color temperature
I needed a light source for copying negatives and slides. So it needed to give uniform light, and be capable of penetrating a diffuser with enough brightness to photograph using a macro lens. It also needed to be easily mountable.
This unit fills the bill exactly, and at a bargain price! It has adjustable brightness, with an LED display of the brightness level in use. It goes to "99," but a setting of "50" works fine for my use. The standard tripod socket on its base works well for mounting. However, it likely would not tolerate a lot of banging around.
One caveat: The lamp has a standard DC power jack, but does not come with a power supply. I tried a few cast-off "wall wart" type power supplies to operate the lamp. All the ones I tried were too weak. So, I tried a 12v power supply that had been used to run a 35-watt business band radio. This worked fine.
