Pre-Order Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 Apo Planar T* ZE Lens for Canon EF Mfr# 2040-292
    Jul 28, 2016
    Great Lens!
I'm not a professional photographer but the Zeiss Otus 85mm is the elusive unicorn in the realm of the 85mm prime lenses. Despite the marginally slower aperture of F/1.4 of the Otus to their other respective competitors, shooting wide open (which you will most often do) with the Otus yields extremely sharp images with an exquisitely smooth boken akin to highly appreciated Scotch. Using the focus ring is like guiltily dipping your fingers into a pot of velvety smooth mashed potatoes laced with salt, pepper, heavy cream, and of course butter. Coupling that aspect along with the extremely wide focus pitch for finding the elusive critical focus point and you have the ultimate treat when hunting for your perfect shot. So what's not to like about this lens? - Weighing in at $4500+ CAD this isn't a lens for everyone. - Photographers who need to dynamically adjust their focus for fast moving subjects will find that manually focusing may not always work in their favor. i.e. Sports photography. - The 1200 grams of the Otus is another turn off especially if this lens is used for handheld photography. Caveats: If you are hoping to attach a filter to the lens and hope to use the lens hood ensure that the lens hood is attached first and then screw in your preferred filter.
