A work of art
This coin is, quite literally, a piece of history. It's completely representative of the era which created it. Miss liberty stands as a symbol which individuals must strive to protect. She wears cotton bolls in her hair. How many of you know what cotton looks like in its natural state?
The coin itself looks as though it were minted that morning and mailed to me immediately. When you are 128 years old, will you look as good?

Keep coins abstract.
0 of 1 found this helpful Coins with individuals on the obverse and reverse are greatly inferior to those which depict abstract concepts of liberty. An actual, flesh and blood individual comes with prejudices and opinions, both on his own part as well as the part of the people who handle the coins. Some individuals may not like the individual depicted. Coins with an abstract depiction of Liberty eliminate this problem.
Furthermore, the Walking Liberty half dollar serves as a good example of this idea. Everyone can appreciate the concepts of liberty, freedom, as well as the American flag which drapes Miss Liberty herself.
The coin itself looks as though it were minted that very morning and mailed to me that afternoon. How many of you will look as good when you're seventy?

Fresh from the mint.
This coin is, quite literally, a piece of history. Minted in 1881, it was around during the prime of the Old West, the Spanish American War in 1898, WWI, the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War, the launch of Sputnik, the Kennedy Assassination, the Moon Landing, and the presidencies of more than a dozen men.
The coin itself looks as though the mint struck it that morning and had it shipped to me that afternoon. It looks pretty good for its age. I bet when you're 130 years old, you won't look nearly as good.
