Excellent series, entertaining, gripping and engaging!
This is one of my favorite series. I love historical fiction, and I've devoured this series three times now. While there are expected deviations from history, the series creates an intricate web of fictional characters and historical figures, and manages to develop several stories at the same time that are satisfying and feel real. The series overall is captivating and utterly engaging with brilliant acting, sweeping scenery, and excellent filming.
NOTES:
If you're considering this set versus the set that comes in packaging that looks like a wooden crate: The DVDs are exactly the same and there are no additional special features. The crate set does come with some neat reproduction documents that the superfan or railroad buff will enjoy.
DVD quality: The quality is good, but I noticed in playing the DVDs on a 4k upscaling blu ray player and a 55" 4k television that some edges are sort of pixely and some areas (backgrounds, like walls or doors) can appear to have fine, wavy lines. This could be my player struggling to upscale, but I doubt it because it does fine on other DVDs of the same era and even older ones. The picture is still enjoyable and I've watched the whole series through without any real complaint.

Watership Down DVD
3 of 3 found this helpful I was very glad to find this film on DVD. I remember watching it when I was young and being so awed I immediately had to go find the book to read. I just read the book for the third time and decided to see if I could find the movie. The picture quality is good and the extras were very interesting (and I'm not a special features person). Over all it's faithful to the book, tho if you've read the book, you'll find yourself missing things that aren't included in the movie. It's a wonderful story, with environmental, mythological, and social themes. Overall it's serious film (though there are some light parts). The violence makes it unsuitable for young children and there is brief, mild language by one character.
