They are magic.
2 of 2 found this helpful After owning and using a number of cartridge and canister stoves on long distance canoe trips over many years I have finally tried an alcohol stove. I selected this model because the base and pot-holder are incorporated into the burner - three units in one. It's performance exceeds my expectations. I purchased two because I often cook with two burners. They weigh a whopping three ounces combined. The are so rudimentary in design and work so well that I can hardly wrap my head around the simplicity. The shouldn't work but they do. No moving parts. No repair kit. Stable fuel. No pump. No assembly. No disassembly. They can boil single servings of raw vegetables and pasta. the fuel is sold everywhere; even paint stores. They are absolutely mesmerizing. Just fill and light. Alcohol burns cooler than other fuels but the ease-of-use offsets the extra fuel need.
I'm planning on using them on a self-supported bicycle tour. I often take a second stove that uses different fuel but I am tempted not to with these.
