This book is a MUST READ, with the web for backup!
I was skeptical of this book and bought it with a friend. The first 60 pages are all about not cutting the hair. I really didn't need 60 pages to get the message because I was convinced at page 25. But the last 100 pages are really worth reading and then re-reading. But I re-read Chapter 4-10 looking for the answers to questions that she didn't address like Setting Lotion (I'm a SL Junkie). So then, I was skeptical about the products that she suggested. Its her own haircare line and she stands to make some money, so I was determined never to visit ubhpublications. Mistake, big mistake!! At the website she answers sooooo many questions!! I felt like she had written a sequel "Dear Abby" style and addressed to me, to you, my mom, sister, gramdma and to my girlfriends. The jury is IN and both the book and site are WONDERFUL!!
I am proud of the growth spurt my hair has made in the last 4 years (all pre-book). I have chemically-treated, permanently-colored, fine-textured, African-American hair. It reaches my shoulders but I want more. There were some things I was doing right. Like washing it in the shower twice a week. Rinsing thoroughly before shampooing and only lathering once. When washing & conditioning I kept my hair as straight as possible to avoid lots of tangles (too rough on hair to detangle.) I was alternating moisturizing conditioner with protein conditioner. I was moisturizing my hair daily with special attention to the edges. I was air drying and occasionally using my hooded dryer. I never blow dry and use my curling iron so seldom it has collected dust. But I was also doing some stuff waaaay wrong! I love to use a rat-tail wide-toothed because I can feel each hair as it breaks. The comb never has any hair in it, because I'm sooo gentle. BUT put a brush in my hand, and I don't feel a thing! Unfortunately, the brush was always Full of hair and my edges were always gone. Never long enough to pinch hold! I never put the two together until this book. I knew the edges would grow back in 12 weeks (re-touch time) and it would relax beautifully. But where did it go between week 3 and week 8? Its been in the brush!! Cathy opened my eyes to that!
I've had the same fabulous, talented, and knowledgable Hair Professional for 15 yrs and I've experiment with ALL lengths. The only constant has been the light brown/dark blond hair color. I know my hair grows fast, I've got the dark roots to prove it, but edges that stick around for the fall, winter, spring and summer re-touch are what I crave. I believe that Cathy's book will finally give them to me!

Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready! Its a Real Ride!!
1 of 1 found this helpful This book is religiously on the mark! It hits so close to home that I was in tears most of the time. I'm no Rachel, Ruth or Rebekkah! But fortunately I'm not Eve, Delilah, or Leah either. Michelle McKinney Hammond reminds single women of the difference between wanting a husband and wanting to be a wife! This book is about how to be the best YOU possible and not repeat the mistakes of the past.
I'm a super-fast reader so my co-worker loaned me this book over the weekend. I would never have imagined that 1 month later, I would still be reading this 185 page book!! Its soooo deep, I had to purchase my own copy to ponder what I need to do to get on the right bus.

Don't allow your work to be hidden inside!
I've spent just over a month cross stitching this stocking. When it was time to join front and back, I was aghast that my work was wider than their pattern. So I did the smart thing. I sewed just "outside" my stitches. On the reverse side there are clearly visible white lines where Bucilla was directing me to sew over my work. Never Gonna Happen!! I still have a few hours before I'm finished and I still think it's beautiful. But I'd suggest that you cut out the stocking back faaaaaaaaaaaar beyond the dashed line and then sew them together.
