Japanese Ink Painting by Naomi Okamoto (1996)
The book provided much help with the use of color that I had not seen as much in other books. I would have liked to have seen some more technique, as I am somewhat isolated (from Sumi-e artists) and am developing on my own.
Another great help in my Sumi-e library, as are her other works.

The Sumi-E Dream Book - Review by Dr. Thomas Conrad
The book is a beautiful by itself. This book is the kind that one leaves on the coffee table to look through when enjoying a cup of tea in front of the fireplace.
The complex technique is amazing to see in an art that is rooted in simplicity. That may seem to contradict itself, but compared to western art, these paintings are in one way simple (or non-photo like paintings), but have a wonderful blend of simple lines and color.
Trying to paint like this reminds one that simple and easy are not the same. Excellent work.
