Pokémon Diamond - Still Great!

You can't really go wrong with generation IV, with Platinum/Heartgold/Soulsilver being the absolute finest. It's not a flawless game: the regional dex lacks fire type Pokémon until you reach the national dex after beating the league and of course that damage meter and battles can be pretty slow, but if you can overlook those things, it's got a fun and interesting plot, great soundtrack, and it's more challenging than newer entries. I'd venture to say it still has an edge over its remakes because the whole game is provided on the cartridge; you don't have to go downloading the post-game with an online update like you do with brilliant diamond/shining pearl and the underground bases are more customizable in the original D/P/P. It's an epic experience of nostalgia and compatible with many other games: You can migrate Pokémon from your GBA games, migrate to the Black & White games, connect to Pokémon Battle Revolution and the other generation IV games as well. This era of Pokémon was great!
