Serviceable blades with the right look and feel
1 of 1 found this helpful If you're looking for a set of black-bladed ceramic knives, I will start by saying they are very nice-looking knives.
I know that isn't typically a qualification for knives, so from a performance standpoint, they cut very well, assuming that the skin of whatever you're slicing is not tough. A sweet potato gave a bit of trouble at first, and probably the worst part of performance that I have encountered so far is the blunted tips.
The blunt tips are a safety feature, and from that perspective, I can see why they're there, but it definitely loses a bit in not being able to pierce something before slicing.
When washing, I've noticed that the knives have a tendency to show water spots if you don't dry them immediately (I do not place ceramics in the dishwasher, so I have no details on that, nor do I recall whether the listing indicated that they are dishwasher-safe--use caution).
The peeler is alright, but it feels like cheap plastic, and the blade swivels a lot. We have a Cutco peeler that is superior in every way, so I would say this is not worth it if it is the reason you're looking at this set.
Pricewise, I feel like they're a good value. We've only had and been using them for 2-3 weeks (we prefer the 5" santoku, so it's been used longer), and it is possible that one of the pieces could fail quickly.
Ultimately, I'm happy with my purchase, and should anything change, I will update this review.
