A bit zany
Having absolutely LOVED the "original" Mr. Bean sketches, I decided to try the animated versions. I loved the original ones with Rowan Atkinson because it is simply British sit-com at its best! Atkinson's grasp of physical comedy is absolutely masterful. My three year old son loves the original sketches too... He is the only one at our house, though, who really "gets" the animated sketches. While my husband and I miss the acting of Atkinson and the "British comedy feel," our son is engaged by the faster-paced, animated aspect of the cartoon version. Expect the cartoon sketches to be quite a bit more off the wall (as physical comedy has its limitations especially in terms of set design), and less "Classic Bean." I will say that the animators do a decent job of capturing Bean, and of course Atkinson does the voiceovers... but if you're like me, you'll find it just isn't the same. If you have a child you may enjoy it more watching it as a family :-). If you are a die-hard Bean fan, I'd recommend trying a 2-disk set and then go for the whole set only if you find the animated comedy engaging.
