Nostalgic late '70's
A great movie, Matt Dillon playing the same type character he reprised later in the Outsiders. Even though the plot culminates in an over the top climax, if you were a kid in this era all the young actors seem like kids you may have known in those years, and it feels like you are glancing through some portal to a teenage world that no longer exists. A++

A lot going on in this movie...
Although on the surface it is a hotrod flick with sparse dialogue, this movie has a lot going on beneath the surface. It's really about the male ego, lost in modern world. Everyone has a reason to keep going as long as the "prize" is at stake, the "prize" is really the girl. Once that is removed, everything disintegrates and the characters have lost their reasons they formerly thought motivated them. A great film, Warren Oates awesome as the middle age guy who reveals the most about himself through his incessant lying about who he is. James Taylor is a very intense character in this as well, for a "non-actor" he really had a presence that stays with you after viewing it. The fact the movie doesn't have the traditional "ending" makes it even more haunting and thought-provoking.

A literary adventure, Jules Verne's sequ...
A literary adventure, Jules Verne's sequel to Edgar A. Poe's "Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket". Didn't have any idea this book existed, read the Poe story first!
